new music: poet/musician king shares heartbreaking tribute to trayvon martin with spoken-word-soul track “hurricane”
‘HURRICANE (In Honor of Trayvon Martin)’ is a spoken word poetry piece by a powerful writer/musician named KiNG. This single is an emotionally-charged tribute to Trayvon Martin and a visceral unpacking of the dehumanizing violence POC face at the hands of police. Half-poem, half-gospel song, ‘HURRICANE’ is a heartbreaking expression of the grief many of us in the black and brown communities are still experiencing everyday. But, even in the face of the callous murders before and after Martin’s death, KiNG leaves us with a hopeful promise of resistance: “Trayvon, a hurricane’s coming/with your name on it”.
