new music: early stream – adia victoria’s debut ‘beyond the bloodhounds’ holds nothing back #soundcheck

May 6, 2016

Since getting a first taste of Adia Victoria’s tantalizing blend of blues, folk, punk, poetry, and whatever the hell else she feels like doing last year, we’ve been clamoring for more. Now we’re excited to bring you an early stream of her debut full length Beyond the Bloodhounds. With a title that pays homage to Harriet Jacobs’ “Narrative in the Live of a Slave Girl,” the album holds nothing back. It’s unapologetic; sometimes rapturously beautiful, and sometimes compellingly hideous, but always captivating.
Beyond the Bloodhounds is an album-length collection of highlights culminating in the stunning “Mexico Blues.” Adia Victoria is a gifted storyteller, contorting her unmistakable voice into new shapes with each song, conveying a deep existential rage in “Stuck In The South” or vulnerability in “Mortimer’s Blues.” The album is an early contender for best of 2016.
