feature: cal state l.a. hosts 3-day celebration of femmes in sci-fi, fantasy, and comic book genres for eagle-con 2016

May 9, 2016

California State University Los Angeles is honoring creative femmes in sci-fi, fantasy, and comic book genres at Eagle-Con 2016 – “Pushing Boundaries: Gender, Identity, Expression”. The three-day event (May 12-14) will focus on the importance of diversity in these genres, not only from femme-identified-individuals, but LGBTQIA folx, the differently-abled, and people of all ages. Over those three days, attendees will be able to attend impressive panels and Q&A’s, participate in themed events, and meet a bunch of incredible people—cosplay is encouraged!

This year’s event will also highlight the works and achievements of Tananarive Due and Natalie Chaidez. Due, a producer and the award-winning writer of The Living Blood and Ghost Summer, will be presented with the first ever Eagle-Con Octavia E. Butler Memorial Award on May 12. Chaidez will be the recipient of the Eagle-Con Prism Award, which recognizes ethnically and culturally diverse futuristic worlds, on May 14 as part of the event’s closing program.

Eagle-Con 2016 is free to call Cal State L.A. students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Members of the public can purchase single and multi-day tickets, right here.
