new music: powerhouse blues-rock vocalist sophia urista drops killer ep, “ratchet punk blues”

“Ratchet Punk Blues” is a dazzling blend of blues-infused punk-rock that’s split open by the fierce, uncompromising vocals of Sophia Urista. Accompanied by guitarist/drummer/producer Brian J., Urista digs down into the depths of deeply personal experiences, allusions to alcoholism, trauma, and ambiguously strained familial relationships— particularly on the EP’s finale, “Eye Owe You”, which comes all too soon. “Ratchet Punk Blues” is an impressively well-rounded collection that will excite even the most casual blues listener. Definitely take a little slice out of your day to take a listen.
