afropunk premiere: electro/trip-hop/jazz-soul band native dancer wows with refreshing and imaginative ep “vol. ii”
London-based Native Dancer is a refreshing burst of imagination, uniqueness, and purpose in a crowded electro-fusion landscape. A perfectly balanced marriage of electronic pop, trip-hop, soul, and jazz, Native Dancer’s second EP, “Vol. II”, is driven by a rich soundscape of unexpected, experimental instrumentals and jazz vocals; demonstrating their fundamental understanding of who they are as a band and the risks they’re willing to take to bring that sound to fruition—and, boy, are we grateful that they do.
Native Dancer is made up of vocalist Frida Touray (Lianne La Havas), keyboardist Sam Crowe (Cinematic Orchestra, Matthew Herbert, Rosie Lowe), bass player Jonathan Harvey (Ethan Johns, Bill Laurence, Cinematic Orchestra), drummer Ulysees, and saxophone player Josh Arcoleo.
