Art
feature: take a scroll through shadrieka—fine artist and children’s illustrator shadra strickland’s etsy shop
Let’s be honest—purchasing fine art isn’t necessarily at the top of everyone’s list. It’s often inaccessibly expensive or too high-brow for the casual observer to connect with. But platforms like Esty and Storenvy are changing the disconnect between the “art world” and the folx who just want to view/own/display beautiful shit that moves them. Baltimore-based fine artist and illustrator Shadra Strickland, who specializes in children’s illustrations, is one of those creatives creating access to her exceptional work, for totally reasonable prices. I’m talking digital reproduction archival prints starting at $15 to hand-made prints for $450. There are several themes that tie Strickland’s visual world together, such as childhood and harmony with nature, but my favorite is her depictions of black heritage and her childhood years spent in Georgia. Strickland’s work has even been nominated for a NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work for Children. Definitely take a swing by her Etsy shop, Shadriek. Get a little preview down below.
