afropunk premiere: experimental dutch duo the motto drop first single, ‘gunfighter’
Check out new music from new experimental/synth/ r-and-b-inspired Dutch duo THE MOTTO, formed by singer/songwriter Jalise and songwriter/producer Joveek. Both experienced music-makers, Joveek, a songwriter for Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, and Chris Brown and, Jalise, the protégé of acclaimed songwriter/producer Giorgio Tuinfort, have joined forces to create a project that expresses who they are as independent artists. THE MOTTO experiments with song structure and genre expectations to create a uniquely cinematic, atmospheric, “urban”-inspired sound.
“’Gunfighter’ is about a person who is trying to suppress a burst of rage and tries to express oneself without any physical expression of anger. The person manages the situation through self-therapy and by turning bad thoughts into creativity and self expression,“ Joveek tells AFROPUNK.
