afropunk premiere: british folk singer eska’s kaleidoscopic new video – ‘shades of blue’

June 23, 2015

Today we’re premiering the new video from British folk singer Eska – ‘Shades of Blue’ (taken from her soulful self-titled debut album). Regarding the striking visual, directed by Jordan Copeland & Yan Murawski, Eska tells us: “This kaleidoscope performance mirrors the multi-tracked vocals lamenting a break-up.  The turbulence produces explosions of colour as I’m singing, ‘I’m just another shade of blue’. The foundation of the song is a 15-beat cycle but I wanted it to sound unconsciously tricksy and playful – get you tripping over your feet to an uptempo sad song – best to dance it off!” Check out the video below. Also, catch Eska in concert at the Islington Assembly Hall in London 27th November 2015.
