feature: who is the vocalist backing d’angelo on ‘black messiah’ and in his saturday night live performance?

In support of his ‘Black Messiah’ album, D’Angelo made his debut SNL performance this past weekend; but it was not his powerful performance alone that had many of us talking – many found themselves drawn to the unknown female backing vocalist behind him (similar to when Kendrick Lamar performed on The Colbert Report in December). So, who is she? The New Yorker have provided the answer.  Meet singer-songwriter Kendra Foster. A co-lyricist on the ‘Black Messiah’ album, Foster has been closely mentored by the likes of George Clinton as well as D’Angelo. Check out her music, below; plus, the SNL performances.
