feature: photographer, dex r. jones: the beauty in black

“Everything that has ever existed has come out of some darkness but we are afraid of the dark and we demonize the word black“, says photographer Dex R. Jones who uses his portraits as a message to showcase beauty in its full capacity. And although what he exclaims is truth, according to preconceived notions, the color black is represented as any and everything negatively charged or ugly. This idea curses the divinity that the color black holds making the label, or color a form of insult instead of reverence. So where can we as Black people see ourselves as the beauty or King instead of the slave or beast in media? It’s simple, we celebrate photographers such as Dex R. Jones focused on maximizing the radiance that gleams within Black culture.
