afropunk premiere: magic mouth’s video for ‘mother lode’
We already introduced you to Portland-based post-punk band Magic Mouth. Today we’re premiering the video for the epic ballad ‘Mother Lode’.
Info: “Video directed by Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher, best known for their work as co-directors of feature documentaries. After years of Palmieri doing videos for the likes of Beck, The Strokes, Belle and Sebastian, and Sharon Van Etten, the two were very excited to team up for the first time on the new Magic Mouth song “Mother Lode.”. The video was shot at Embers, one of the oldest remaining downtown gay bars in Portland, slated to close its doors after 45 years next year. “Dying drag bars are bittersweet places – they’re tawdry and sad, but also glamorous and full of romantic dreams. The atmosphere at Embers perfectly fit the bittersweet soul in “Mother Lode” says Mosher. Jokes Palmieri, “We sincerely hope that people remember Magic Mouth as the band that made glitter sad.”
