The 12-track mixtape is the London-based artist’s attempt to create a connection between paintings and life. While displaying the different types of human emotion in each track, she borrows sounds from a few popular and classic songs, but makes each single her own. It’s her mesmerizing flow that makes it difficult for you to pinpoint the origin of some tracks.
“The whole idea behind Blank Canvas is that we as individuals are basically blank canvases,” Simz told Life + Times. “As we go through life, the experiences we have are like the paint and strokes that help to mold us and become the creation of our painting.”
The projects standout songs include the nostalgic track “The Bells,” that bounces with the Shabba Ranks “Ting-A-Ling,” sample. She also acquires the enigmatic vocals to songstress Jhene Aiko for “Love In The Key Of E.T,” and declares her purpose in the rap game with “Another One” over A$AP Ferg’s “Work.”
