Melanin is having a MOMENT right now which is an exciting prospect considering I know we all remember a time where that wasn’t the case. As exciting as it is to be melanated now (and in general) Joburg-based, Zimbabwean born photographer Tatenda Chidora is exploring the beauty of black skin away from its function as the latest “trend”.

“Outlining beauty through blackness. Self-embracement of melanin and seeing beauty in black skin.” – Tatenda Chidora

Tatenda uses monochrome photography to have a visual conversation about the striking beauty of black skin. He draws inspiration from the people and places he encounters in everyday life, capturing intoxicating portraits and breathtaking architectural shots of Johannesburg monuments.

Tatenda’s portfolio is vivid with a whimsical nature not regularly associated with black skin. His style and vision is clear in the look book he shot of Joburg-based fashion label Martelle Ludik’s A/W 2017 campaign for FGUK magazine, producing an editorial celebration of black beauty.
