fierce independence and vulnerability find balance in r&b singer kwamie liv’s self-directed, “follow my heart”
Danish-Zambian artist Kwamie Liv is back with another release from her upcoming album, ‘Lovers that Come and Go’ out this fall. Its lead single, “Follow My Heart” is an energy-renewing skin-shedding moment for the singer-songwriter who directed the video herself.
“‘Follow my Heart’ was written at a really fast time last year,” Kwamie says. “There was changes in my private life, I was traveling a lot in between working on my upcoming album, and had just come home from a road trip across America with two friends who were somewhat in the same phase of life as I was – all of us going 100 miles an hour but also really appreciating our freedom and meeting amazing people along the way.”
“For the video, I wanted to direct something that reflected that off-the-cuff raw energy. No big set up, just the DOP, Taj and I walking around with a camera looking for that golden moment. When my friends Jeffrey and Dawanna walked in, it was obvious. They both embody this beautiful balance between fierce strength and vulnerability, something I really admire in people. I was basically like “We’re going for a walk- just do you.”
