Curated by Carre Adams, ‘Punk Noir’ is the solo exhibition by Dawn Okoro on display at the George Washington Carver Museum in Austin, TX. A breathtaking retrospective of alternative black creatives and their aesthetics, Okoro’s show features portraits of black musicians, filmmakers, scholars who she believes have a punk spirit. Through their anti-establishment nature and work to define the African Diaspora experience on their terms. Inspired by afro-futurism and the AFROPUNK community itself, ‘Punk Noir’ is a celebration of imagination and rule-breaking as a black creative. “Through the gaze of a black, female, artist, and journalist, Okoro documents the subject in each painting by capturing the moment.” Behold.

‘Punk Noir’ is on exhibition at the George Washington Carver Museum in Austin, TX and runs March 8, 2018 – July 21, 2018.
