this cosplay project turns sexual violence survivors into warriors

Just when you thought cosplay couldn’t get any more engaging, the women and team of ‘Sucker Punched 4’ popped back on the scene.

The ongoing ‘Sucker Punched’ project- started by photographer and organizer Craig Lawrence– is gaining well-deserved  traction and following as it enters its fourth season; featuring the original alter egos of your everyday woman warrior, and changing the trajectory of this artform as it maintains partnership with RAINN– the Rape Abuse & Incest National Network (to which they donate 10% of their funds)

Pulling inspiration from Zack Snyder’s 2011 film “Sucker Punch“-where a young girl is institutionalized by her abusive father and must battle through an alternate reality to find salvation- the project as a whole runs much deeper than the cosplay itself. It is SOOOOOO incredibly important for a platform like this to exist- not only expanding the presence of powerful women on the scene, but providing a place for connection and redemption among survivors everywhere.

Showcasing  the power of the female AND the survivor, a universal story is told and a path is rewritten; featuring model’s such as activist and recurring participant Samantha Kane, and giving them the opportunity to “transform into the kind of iconic and powerful action heroes they\’ve admired in comics, film and in their lives.”

The women of ‘Sucker Punched’ are tackling this photography series with everything they got- incorporating “more fantasy and superpower” than ever before and we couldn’t be more here for it.

With the last edition made fully on public donations, they’ve mounted another Indiegogo campaign to continue their budding legacy. Support them in their last month of donations and check out more of their initiative below!
