h&m hires token… um, we mean “a diversity manager” :-*

After facing, basically, worldwide scrutiny over a racist advert they ran, H&M has gone and hired a “Diversity Manager” to teach them how to not expose their anti-blackness. Did they hire a Black person? Nope, but they got company insider Annie Wu as their”Global Leader for Diversity and Inclusiveness”.

“The recent incident was entirely unintentional, but it demonstrates so clearly how big our responsibility is as a global brand,” H&M said in a message posted to its social media accounts.”Our commitment to addressing diversity and inclusiveness is genuine, therefore we have appointed a global leader, in this area, to drive our work forward

So, none of their current employees are conscious of context and are just learning that they should be mindful in their market, just like a real business.

I guess the idea is that Wu will act as their token friend to call them out when they mess up again?
