west african-inspired headdresses stun in this beautiful photo series collaboration

September 19, 2017

Fashion designer Fatima Camara’s new Glow Life collection headdresses are a beautiful ode to West African traditions. Collaborating with photographers Mary Durante Youtt (part I) and Jeff Lamothe (part II) and their talented teams, the artist has put these intricate designs into a stunning photo series.

“The headdress has been worn internationally on women for centuries,” Camara explains. “In some cases, the purpose is to adorn the wearer, showcasing status. In other cases, it serves as a veil, coverage from the public gaze. Using recycled paper and acrylic paint, I created a series of head pieces inspired by West African headwraps and the highlighter beauty trend.”
