solange fed up with “racist ugly ass fuck bois who reek of citronella”

Yesterday, 22-year-old college student and activist Takiyah Thompson was arrested for your role in removing a Confederate monument in Durham, North Carolina. As we reported earlier, “Thompson was charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors related to property damage during a riot and inciting property damage during a riot. Each felony carries the potential prison sentences of 25 months and 41 months.”

“I’m tired of white supremacy keeping its foot on my neck and the necks of people who look like me,” the activist said at a news conference. “That statue glorifies the conditions that oppressed people live in, and it had to go.”

In that moment, Thompson became a hero to many, not least of all to AFROPUNK Brooklyn headliner Solange, who posted a message to let the world know she’s willing to do whatever it takes to #FreeTakiyahThompson, before deleting her Twitter account in what appears to be a show of solidarity. The message was captured by user @gayysian:

It reads:

“deleting my twitter soon, but before I dip
when we gonna pull up ?
& what we got to do to get my new
hero Takiyah Thompson free?”

After deleting her Twitter, the “Don’t Touch My Hair” singer posted another message on Instagram, in which her righteous anger at white supremacy was even more palpable:

The profanity-laced post reads:

“been trying to study myself
been trying to practice self preservation
during this time and not give racist ugly

fuck your stale ass bland ass monument
fuck asking folks to be grateful
my sons first day of school has been in the
midst of seeing these bullshit images that
still tell him this system was built to be
against him
how mofos supposed to have a fresh start
with education, seeing this shit?
thinking about demanding he not be
required to take “American History”
because its deep dark rooted ugliness
continues to live right now, right before
our eyes”
