HBO get your hands off our history–or better yet get your hands off our reality.

This is the mindset behind protests following the announcement of HBO’s latest project Confederate, which proposes to portray a world where the Confederacy survived the civil war with “slavery still in tact.”

Right now, one of the leading protesters is activist and queen of controversial hashtags April Reign. Since dominating Twitter with the creation of #Oscarssowhite, Reign has gathered a huge following, and is currently using her platform to push #NoConfederate, persuading people to repost and tweet this tag during last night’s episode of Game of Thrones, whose team is responsible for this upcoming exploitation. In her own words:

“The commodification of Black pain for the enjoyment of others must stop.”

Not only is Confederate just out of pocket, but I can’t imagine how these white (and two misled Black) creators could possibly not see the irony of their producing a show about modern slavery and profiting from it, while modern slavery already exists. Hello? Have you heard of the prison industrial complex? Just checking.

This Twitter protest is just the beginning, as Reign tells she will “not rest until Confederate is scrapped.” I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to her next move, follow her Twitter @ReignOfApril to join the movement, and stay tuned for the next attack.
