rocker twin shadow croons his way into our hearts performing single ‘saturday’ live

Indie-pop crooner Twin Shadow (real name George Lewis Jr) took to the Conan (O’Brien) stage on Tuesday to perform his newest single ‘Saturday’ off his latest LP ‘Caer’. ‘Saturday’ is co-written by fellow Indie-Pop rockers HAIM. ‘Saturday’ is one of two new songs on the ‘Caer’, the other being ‘Little Woman’. See Twin Shadow perform live this summer at AFROPUNK Brooklyn.

When speaking to Pitchfork about what inspired the LP, Lewis said , “The patriarchy is falling apart. Our perceptions of who we are as human beings, because of technology and machines, are falling apart. We’re living at a breaking point, and a lot of the themes on the album are talking about these fault lines.”

Twin Shadow is performing at AFROPUNK Brooklyn on August 26th and kicking off his US tour.

see through the bullsh*t with synthpop duo nuex’s captivating new single “eyes”

Draped in bubbling arpeggiated synths, DC synthpop duo NUEX’s latest single “Eyes” is deceptively simple. A wall of cold wave sounds hides a beating heart, richly textured by producer and drummer Teddy Aitkins. Singer Camille Michelle Gray melts ice with her voice and she calls out the bullshit of someone who thinks she can’t see.

“I had a particular person in mind,” Camille confesses, “This song plays around with my own dark God complex as well as touches base with the all-knowing powers that be that watch and protect us all.”

“Eyes” appears on the duo’s debut EP Affectus, due out May 25th.

love songs get an afrofuturist twist in lush new single by byron biroli, ‘kings’

It’s fitting that Byron Biroli would find a game collaborator in Afrofuturist digital collagist Khan Nova. His songs are a meld of electro soul and Baganda traditions with a distinct retro future vibe, all wrapped together in a warm synth glow. A video collaboration from them would be mind bending perfection. Biroli’s latest “Kings” is a love song celebrating that person who inspires you to be the best version of yourself. It’s the kind of song that instantly washes away the cynicism that’s all too easy to fall into these days. More of this please!
