What is AFROPUNK?
AFROPUNK is an influential community of young, gifted people of all backgrounds who speak through music, art, film, comedy, fashion and more. Originating with the 2003 documentary that highlighted a Black presence in the American punk scene, it is a platform for the alternative and experimental. Remaining at the core of its mission are the punk principles of DIY aesthetics, radical thought, and social nonconformity. AFROPUNK is a voice for the unwritten, unwelcome and unheard-of, redefining the urban experience.

Are there rules to attend AFROPUNK?
AFROPUNK abides by the tenets: NO SEXISM, NO RACISM, NO ABLEISM, NO AGEISM, NO HOMOPHOBIA, NO FATPHOBIA, NO TRANSPHOBIA, NO HATEFULNESS. We strive to create a safe space for all behind, on, and in front of the stage. Read more here.

What are Solution Sessions?
A unique space within the weekend’s programming that provides opportunities like that of a social salon: to inspire, engage, inform, and rally around the importance of civic participation and diverse thinking. Curated talks encourage attendees to envision themselves making a difference and supporting social innovations, addressing myriad topics, issues, and concepts that are solution-based.

What is the SpinThrift Market?
A thoughtfully curated DIY marketplace showcasing the best and brightest talents from the maker community and sparking connections between community and craftspeople.

Where can I buy tickets?
Only tickets purchased through the official AFROPUNK SeeTickets page are guaranteed to be valid. You can find this at AFROPUNK Live Minneapolis Tickets.

Where is the entrance this year?
The entrance to the festival is located on 13th Avenue NE.

Is the festival rain or shine?
Yes, the festival is a rain or shine event.

What time do doors open?
The doors to the festival open at 11 AM.

What time does the festival end?
The festival ends at 10PM.

Is there re-entry into the festival?
There is no re-entry into the festival.

Do I get a wristband upon entering the venue?
Tickets purchased far enough in advance will have their wristband mailed to them. Further instructions for how to use your wristband will be included in the package. Please do not put on your wristband until the day of the event.
Tickets purchased closer to the event, or by international customers, can pick up their wristbands at the will call desk near the venue entrance.

Are Tickets Still Available?
Yes, tickets can be purchased at AFROPUNK Live Minneapolis Tickets. We suggest you buy in advance, as tickets may sell out.

Can I upgrade to VIP?
No, AFROPUNK Live: Minneapolis is general admission for all attendees. There will be no VIP tickets available for sale.

Where are the ATMs located?
AFROPUNK is a cashless event this year. There are no ATMs onsite.

Where are the restrooms?
Portable restrooms will be available throughout the festival grounds.

Where is the best place to grab a bite?
We welcome the return of Bites&Beats to the festival. Enjoy a selection of deliciousness from our vendor food trucks.

Will there be vegetarian/vegan items?
We love vegan and vegetarian food and there will be options for both.

Are there water stations?
Festival water can be purchased at the bars. There will be a free water station at the event.

Where can I charge my phone?
There are no charging stations on the festival grounds.

Where is the Merch Booth?
AFROPUNK merch and artist merchandise will be sold at the AFROPUNK Merch Tent.

Where is the Medical Tent?
The Medical Tent will be located at the Festival Entrance near the Guest Services booth.

Where is Lost and Found?
Lost and Found is located at the Guest Services booth.

ADA INFORMATION:
The Info/ADA Booth is located at the Guest Services booth.

Is the Festival accessible to people with disabilities?
Yes, this festival is ADA accessible. Accessible restrooms are in the same area as all patron restrooms. ADA viewing area is located in front of the stage. Visit the Guest Services booth for assistance.

Where do I get my accessible pass?
Accessible Passes for ADA guests may be requested at the Box Office or at the Guest Services Booth inside the venue. This pass can be carried with you around the festival for access to ADA viewing areas and other accessible needs. You can contact our Guest Services Manager at guestservices@afropunk.com

Am I allowed to have service animals?
Service animals are allowed; however, dogs must be on a leash at all times and shots up to date. Please remember that DB levels are high near the stages and to be aware.

Where are accessible restrooms?
The accessible porta-lets are in the same area as the rest of the restrooms

What you can bring in:
• One recyclable (non-glass) container for water (not two, or three or four or any quantity over one)
• Small bags
• Small purses and clear bags
• Framed backpacks used for carrying children are fine, but backpacks are discouraged and large backpacks will not be allowed

What you may NOT bring in:
• Weapons (guns, knives, or any weapons of any kind)
• Fireworks or explosives
• Illegal substances
• Glass containers or cans
• Framed or Large backpacks, book bags or non-transparent bags over hand size (any bag that is not clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and over 12”x6”x12” in size will not be allowed)
• Food or drinks of any kind – other than reusable water bottles
• Coolers or picnic baskets
Lensed cameras, long-lens cameras or professional photography equipment
• Any type of travel-friendly chairs or other lawn furniture
• Bicycles, scooters or other personal motorized vehicles (including, but not limited to: motor scooters, powered skateboards, and hoverboards) *Motorized wheelchairs and personal mobility scooters are welcome, of course.
• Radios, boomboxes, instruments or devices with amplified sound.
• Large multi-person umbrellas (personal umbrellas for rain protection are fine.)
• Laser pointers
• Tents
• Pets of any kind (except for working service dogs)
• Items for vending. Unauthorized vendors will not be allowed. All authorized vendors have been carefully chosen for safety and quality.

*These items will NOT be permitted on the premises, and you will be prohibited from entering if anything listed is in your possession.

Will I be searched upon entry?
Yes, festival security will search all persons and bags prior to entry. Please review the prohibited items list if you aren’t sure whether you can bring something.

What is your re-entry policy?
All exits are final.

Can I bring outside food & drinks?
No, only a recyclable container for water. We have amazing food in our Bites&Beats food area.

Is AFROPUNK an all-ages event?
Of course, no ageism. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

What kind of ID do I need to buy drinks and pick up tickets?
Only valid (non-expired) government issued ID will be accepted.

When will the performance schedules be released?
Keep an eye on our social media for scheduled releases and updates!

COVID Protocols

AFROPUNK Live: Minneapolis will take place at Sheridan Memorial Park, an open-air outdoor space located at 1300 Water St NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413. As an outdoor event we are following applicable public health guidelines.Covid-19 vaccines and masks are encouraged by certain public health or governmental agencies for attendees; however, proof of vaccination, the wearing of masks, or a negative Covid-19 test are not required at this time.

AFROPUNK Live: Minneapolis will have free hand sanitizing stations and masks at the Guest Services booth and the Ticket Box office. While we cannot guarantee (and do not guarantee) that you will not become infected with COVID-19, we encourage all attendees to wash and/or sanitize their hands frequently and wear a mask to reduce the risk of transmission.
