SZA’s S.O.S Is Dropping This Friday, And Here’s What We Expect.

December 7, 2022

Finally the five year long wait is coming to an end this Friday (12/09/2022) when TDE’s SZA drops her sophomore album S.O.S. Many of us have been listening to “20 Something’ off of her debut Ctrl till we got well into our 30s, so this new project has been highly anticipated. Earlier this week SZA announced the release date and revealed a tracklist which is 23 songs deep. As a fan, I am not mad at all and will probably forget that it’s been five years without a full length SZA project. Even though it’s been five years, SZA’s been active and visible, so to be fair, it’s not like she dropped a classic debut and disappeared off of the face of the planet. Since dropping control she’s done the first Black Panther soundtrack, she released two amazing singles “Hit Different” & “Good Days” in 2020, and followed up last year with “I hate You”. She’s also given us the deluxe version to Ctrl to celebrate the album’s fifth anniversary, so she has been taking care of her fans.

Judging by the singles she’s dropped leading up to S.O.S, I have a feeling we might be getting a lot of “sad girl” anthems that will give us numerous Instagram captions. A lot has happened and I think this album will give us an even more personal side of SZA, especially after the loss of her Grandmother who was an integral part of CTRL, her battling depression, and other good and bad experiences along the way. Looking at the features, it’s hard to predict how this will sound sonically because she’s brought in an eclectic mix of people who dominate different spheres in music, but I’d love to see the producer credit list just to get an idea of who she’s been working with behind the boards. In recent interviews she’s stated that she’s recorded over 100 songs for this project, so it’s not hard to imagine the long process of selecting the right songs, sequencing and making sure that this lives up to its predecessor. Either way, I am excited that we’re getting a full length project from one of the most creative artists in the game right now. Let us know what you expect.
