September 8, 2021

AFROPUNK is proud to announce Target as its partner on the upcoming AFROPUNK ATLANTA Festival taking place Sept. 25-26. The retailer will present the “Uncontained Stage,” featuring Rico Nasty, Tems, and new artists on the lineup, Van Jess, Young Baby Tate and Doechi which will stream live for the first time on the AFROPUNK Twitch Channel. This will be the third time AFROPUNK and Target have collaborated, with Target coming on board as a presenting sponsor. AFROPUNK’s radical approach to activism has always been to bring Black joy through music, art, food, and recognition of Black culture. This year’s mantra of “WE GOT US” promotes a message of self-reliance and self-determination within the Black community, and aligns with Target’s focus on uplifting emerging Black creators as a part of the company’s commitment to supporting the Black community.  AFROPUNK ATLANTA festival-goers will have the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of entertainment, including Target’s exclusive, behind-the-scenes series called the “UNCONTAINED Experience presented by Target” which will include footage of the five (5) performances along with a peek into how UNCONTAINED was developed. The content will air on planetafropunk.com from the first week of October and be available on the platform as video on demand. Festival-goers and virtual attendees will also be immersed in new ways to experience the event through various touch points including Bites & Beats, The Spinthrift Market, The Hair & Beauty Village, Art & Times, and Ideaville.

Anita Asante, Head of Global Strategic Partnerships at AFROPUNK, said “Partnering with Target for the third year running is a special moment for us as they are a brand partner that truly goes beyond the talk to walk the walk in supporting Black communities and creators. What initially brought AFROPUNK and Target together was a shared focus on supporting black joy and helping young, black creative voices to express themselves freely through art, fashion and music. As we enter year three, Target’s contribution to the festival centers on uplifting Black creativity and freedom of expression, which are core values of the AFROPUNK community. We are so excited to have Target back this year as a presenting partner, and look forward to sharing our collaboration, UNCONTAINED, with the world.”
