muzi is on a love high in the “phuma (bad self)” video

April 24, 2020

Empangeni’s own Muzi is back with a fun new DIY video for “Phuma (Bad Self).” The track itself is a vulnerable, high-spirited love song on which he pours his heart out to the object of his affection, encouraging her to “go on wit’ ya bad self.”

The video gives us Muzi the shirtless heartthrob dancing and frolicking in his signature Vans, and cruising around in a shopping cart. A collaboration between Muzi and fellow artist Espacio Dios, the video also feels like a love letter to South Africa’s natural beauty. “We took a drive to Hartbeespoort Dam looking for cool spots to shoot at, explain Muzi via email.”This was more of a super unique DIY approach and we tried to execute this without making a big deal. We wanted to shoot a video whilst making mistakes because this was our learning process. The video is about allowing your artistic mistakes to breathe.” The ebullient spirit of the clip is a breath of fresh air when we all could use one.
