MusicThe Womxn Movement
afropunk mixtape #063: the womxn movement
In celebration of Womxn’s History Month, we’re highlighting the movement’s leaders, past, present, and future, who have worked tirelessly for justice and equity. Activists like the great Angela Davis, Kathleen Cleaver, and Miss Major Griffin-Gracy; and boundary-pushing artists like Rico Nasty, Debby Friday and Moor Mother (as part of the group, Irreversible Entanglements), who’ve produced some of the tightest tracks to come our way this year. As Angela Davis reminds us: “Often times we think of history in a rather static way. We don’t think of the future as history, and we don’t think of the present as history. Strength in Struggle evokes in my mind the present and future as history as well and calls upon us to imagine something better.”
