When living in the States, it is difficult to remain shocked when every day is a circus conducted by the ultimate clown. The latest “fuck you” to immigrants by 45 is a Global Entry ban against New Yorkers as punishment for its attempt to be a safe space for people from all over the world. New York Attorney General Letitia James says, “No one should ever use our nation’s security as a political weapon, let alone the Commander-in-Chief.”

New Yorkers can no longer enroll or re-enroll in Global Entry, a program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival to the U.S. The move is a clear punishment for New York’s policy of accepting and protecting all kinds of people as well as setting an example to other states that want to be welcoming or humane. This is a direct response to their “Green Light Law” which went into effect in December, giving undocumented immigrants the opportunity to apply for driver’s licenses while limiting the state from sharing data to federal immigration authorities. 

New York is now suing the administration, calling the ban “unconstitutional.” The lawsuit states: “Consequences will ripple throughout the state. Congested lines at New York’s airports and border crossings will strain resources at the border and undermine safety for all travelers. New York’s economy will suffer as wait times at border crossings increase, employers doing global business are placed at a competitive disadvantage, and residents who rely on cross-border travel lose access to these programs.”
