afropunk mixtape #062: black history x black futures

February 3, 2020
450 Picks

This month we find ourselves contemplating the question asked by the great sci-fi writer N.K. Jemisin: How long til Black future month?

As we imagine the infinite possibilities of liberated futures, we carry in our hearts and headphones the music of those legends who set the stage for all we do, as well as the artists, writers and activists whose work looks forward with passion and inventiveness. From the originals in Pure Hell and the immortal Angela Davis to the futuristic fantasias of Thundercat and Moses Sumney, as well as those with one foot rooted in the past and one in the future, like Algiers, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and Gary Clark Jr., “Black History X Black Futures” is the soundtrack for right now.
