READY OR NOT, ‘CANDYMAN’ TRAILER IS HERE

Get ready to shit your pants all over again. Because the trailer for Jordan Peele (producer and co-writer) and Nia DeCosta’s (director and co-writer) Candyman remake just dropped and it looks sickening. Set to a chopped n’ screwed remix of Destiny Child’s “Say My Name,” we find ourselves dropped right back in the area formerly known as the Cabrini-Greene housing projects. This time we’re rolling with an eager young visual artist Anthony McCoy (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) who moves into a luxury loft that replaced the rundown project with his girlfriend, Brianna (played by Teyonah Parris).
When Anthony decides to explore his new neighborhood, he meets an old Cabrini-Green resident (Colman Domingo) who tells him of the horrific tragedies that were once visited upon the community, including the myth and legend of Candyman. Desperate to elevate his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony dives head-first into community’s dark history through his artwork, possibly unknowingly opening a portal to the past he has no business meddling in.
Best of all, it’s still totally unclear who is playing the illustrious Candyman. Is Anthony possessed by Candyman’s spirt, or will Tony Todd (who is slated to appear in the film) be reprising his iconic role? Either way, shit looks mad promising.
Candyman comes out in theaters this June.
