When we look back at music in the past decade we’ll obviously have to talk about a dominant hitmaker such as Drake but we’d be remiss not to talk about the impact a certain Nigerian-American skateboarder from L.A. and his crew have had on music and broader culture. Of course, we’re referring to Tyler Okonma aka Tyler, The Creator and the since disbanded Odd Future (Wolf Gang Kill Them All).

Tyler’s first solo release, BASTARD was a sample of everything that made him a unique talent: from his preternatural gift for production to his unmistakable voice to his dark, irreverent humor and penchant for emotional vulnerability in his rhymes. The project also served as an introduction to the OF collective that would give us innovators like Earl Sweatshirt, The Internet, and Frank Ocean.

In a moment of gratitude and reflection, Tyler took to social media to thank all those involved in the creation of this seminal project and to give context for its creation and the beginning of his own journey from misfit to mainstay. read what he had to say below.
