Caught on tape, a now-fired school deputy brutally grabbed a middle school girl by her hair while responding to a call about teenagers fighting in a parking lot. Captured both on the officer’s body cam and by bystanders’ cellphone video, the videos show the officer yanking the young girl — who is already in distress — before dragging her away. In the video released by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the unnamed officer can be seen grabbing the girl’s arm and pulling it behind her back saying, “You’re the one who started this shit in school. You’re the one who started this shit all day today anyway, all right?”
Having restrained the young girl, who is at this time crying hysterically, the officer grabs her by the hair, which is covered by a scarf, and mutters “I’m tired of this shit” as he drags her to the squad car. Naturally, onlookers went wild at this point, shouting at officers as the arrest continues. Visibly upset, the officers pulls his baton and tells the large crowd, “This is because you’re silly. You’re all stupid little children! Stupid little children is what you are!” Whew.
Thankfully, for a change, the local Sheriff, John Mina, agreed that the actions taken were inappropriate and brutal saying that he was “extremely upset, disappointed and outraged by the conduct of our deputy sheriff.” After reviewing the bystander video as well as the body camera footage, Sheriff Mina made the decision to terminate the deputy’s employment, adding that the investigation was ongoing at the state attorney’s office to determine whether criminal charges should be pressed, as well.
“I want the community to know that this type of behavior is not going to be tolerated at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office,” said Mina.
