It only took ‘em 20 plus years, but Pixar is finally out with a trailer for its first Black-lead animated movie and it’s called “Soul”. Following middle school band teacher Joe Gardner, voiced by Jamie Foxx, a passionate jazz musician struggling to make his dreams come true. But when he nabs an actual gig, Joe finds himself free-falling down a manhole and where he ends up is a magical place where he is confronted by his soul.

‘Soul’ is set to explore the true meaning of life and what it means to have a soul in the first place. Pretty heavy themes, but if it’s anything like the Oscar-winning “Coco”, Pixar will handle it beautifully.

Tina Fey, Questlove?, Phylicia Rashad, and David Diggs star alongside Jamie Fox as the voices for the film. The score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross and additional songs by Late Show bandleader, Jon Batiste, who wrote a few original jazz songs for the film.

The film is out in June 2020 and we are ready from some animated soul in our lives.
