dream casting: billy porter in talks to be ‘cinderella’s fairy godfather

If we could hand-select our dream fairy godparent, I’m sure hard-pressed to find a better candidate than Emmy, Tony, and Grammy-winning performer, Billy Porter. But if you are problematic singer Camila Cabello, that dream may soon become a reality.

As Deadline reports, the Pose actor is in talks with Sony to join their forthcoming adaptation of Cinderella. With Cabello already seated in the titular role, Porter would bring his charisma and, frankly, magic to the role most memorably portrayed by Whitney Houston in Disney’s 1997 version.

Said to be a re-imagining of the classic story, details about director Kay Cannon’s vision are being kept tightly under wraps. Jonathan Kadin is producing the project alongside James Corden and Leo Pearlman’s Fulwell73 banner.

As excited as we are to see Porter flourish in the role…I sure am curious about how Cabello’s past history of using racial microaggressions and slurs on social media might factor into this pairing. Shame if another actress replaced her.
