missy elliott to be honored with video vanguard award
2019 is shaping up to be one hell of a year for Missy Elliott. Right after receiving an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music and her induction into the songwriter’s hall of fame, Missy Misdemeanor is now being honored with a Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 MTV VMAs at the end of August. The award acknowledges decades of greatness and lasting impact of culture and music. Past recipients include Beyoncé, Madonna, Kanye West, Britney Spears, and Rihanna.
“Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible,” head of music and music talent at Viacom Bruce Gillmer said in a press release. “Her creative vision across production, performance and songwriting is unmatched.”
It’s been nearly 15 years since Missy has released a studio album, and yet the world is still as in love with her as we were the day “Work It” dropped. Congratulations, Missy!
