Black nerds have good reason to be excited this morning with the news that Netflix has picked up 12 full episodes of LeSean Thomas’s anime series, Cannon Busters. Spawned from the 2005 comic book series of the same name, written by Thomas and J. Torres, the fantasy story is set in a sci-fi-western world and follows a mysterious bounty hunter named Philly the Kid. Coerced into embarking on a mission to reunite an unfamiliar android with the prince of her homeland, the pair set off in a shape-shifting Cadillac.

According to the synopsis: Follow the adventures and exploits of S.A.M, a high-end, royal-class friendship droid whose joined by a quirky, discarded maintenance robot and a brash, deadly fugitive. Together, the unlikely trio embarks on an unforgettable journey in a fantastic and dangerous world in search of S.A.M.’s best friend, the heir to a powerful kingdom under siege.

Back in 2014, a Kickstarter was launched to help create the animated adaptation of the comic book. And in 2017, it was slated to be released on Netflix, only to be pushed back to 2018 and then to this month. But here it is and so far fans are loving it. So much so that Netflix has already announced plans for a second season. Check out the trailer and let us know if you’ll be watching.
