afropunk paris playlist: 5 bops for île seguin

May 11, 2019
74 Picks

You see the Paris line-up additions, right? We all know Solange and Saadiq at La Seine Musicale are going to be put on sets for the ages. But we’re also betting that there will be a few other artists on the bill that will make the city of lights shine even brighter on July 13th and 14th, and they’ve got bops on bops on bops.

Lizzo (with Missy Elliott), “Tempo”

One of 2019’s biggest and most inspirational artists is gonna light Paris the f*ck up, and if you haven’t heard the magic she and Misdemeanor made together, you’re sleeping.

IAMDDB, “Urban Jazz”

Beyond excited to bring fearless Manc Diana DeBrito back to the AP stage, this time at the La Seine Musicale. “Urban Jazz” is the name she’s given to her sound, and the lead track off her newest mixtape, Swervvvvv.5. True next-level heat.

Tank & the Bangas, “Nice Things”

Our old friends — they won AFROPUNK Brooklyn’s Battle of the Bands in 2016, before they were invited to play anyone’s “desk” — now have a major-label deal and are blowing up across the universe. We can’t applaud loudly enough.

Samurai Shotgun, “The Blast”

One of our favorite punk-rap bands, and another graduate of AFROPUNK’s Battle of the Bands, these gentlemen from Tampa (by way of Atlanta) are the future of hardcore. “The Blast” is one of their two massive 2018 singles. Expect new music in Paris!

Muzi, AFROPUNK DJ mix

Before he played a storming set at AFROPUNK Joburg 2018, the vocalist/producer/DJ from the eastern coast of South Africa made us an exclusive DJ mix full of incredible music he released on 2018’s already-legendary album, Afrovision. Do NOT miss him.
