Kwanza Osajyefo and Tim Smith 3’s critically acclaimed comic book series Black is getting an impressive follow-up with the recently announced White.
A six-part series, White picks up in the supernatural world established in Black where the Black populations are, suddenly, the only ones with superpowers. Told from the perspective of a young Black man named X, formerly Kareem Jenkins, as he navigates his new life with superpowers.
But in White, X and others now must navigate “the context of empowered Blacks in a nation entrenched in a history of racial inequality. Now, the challenge is to the foundations of white identity propped up by institutional normalization of its supremacy.” Living under the rule of a racist named Theodore Mann, whose goal it is to strike down the threat of non-white populations by criminalizing those with powers to the point of issuing state-sanctioned violence. Sound familiar? Leading the resistance against the Mann administration, X and his fellow resistors must defy the odds and win the fight for justice.
Teaming up again with the original creative team behind Black, White will feature the work of Inkpot-Award winning artist Jamal Igle and cover artist Khary Randolph. Osakyefo and 3 introduced White has the second part of a trilogy over on Kickstarter. Geeked up about this one? Head over to Kickstarter to help the project along.
