afropunk mixtape #051: long live our qweens

March 5, 2019

In honor of Women’s History Month, this month’s AFROPUNK mixtape lifting up the women who make our community what it is. From the artists who you will see this upcoming July at AFROPUNK Paris, including Lizzo, Janelle Monáe, and Rico Nasty, to recent favorites like Bells Atlas and The Black Tones, to activists like Munroe Bergdorf and Saffiyah Khan (who guests so wonderfully on the new music by The Specials). We take Munroe Bergdorf’s words to heart, to fight the epidemic of transphobic violence with every breath, and to celebrate our trans sisters. This month’s mixtape is defiant, queer, transgressive, and most importantly: a party. Long live our Qweens!
