kamasi washington’s short film to debut at sundance
Man of many hats, saxophonist/composer/bandleader Kamasi Washington is adding director to his list of creative outlets with the release of his upcoming short, As Told to G/D Thyself.
Set to premiere at next year’s Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, the much-anticipated short is inspired by the music from Washington’s Heaven and Earth, which came out earlier this year. Joining Washington in the co-director’s chair is Terence Nance, Jenn Nkiru, and Marc Thomas with Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Bradford Young. Together, the creative collective is going by Ummah Chroma. Could more projects be in the works, then?
As Told to G/D Thyself follows up last year’s 14-minute track “Truth” which was featured alongside AG Rojas directed short Harmony of Difference.
