issa rae to star in hbo’s ‘the dolls’
Gang gang! Our girl, Insecure showrunner/actor/creator Issa Rae will be leading the cast of HBO’s upcoming series The Dolls, also starring Laura Dern. The project follows the aftermath of a Christmas Eve riot over a Cabbage Patch doll in two small Arkansas towns.
According to Deadline, Rae will join the project as part of her first-look deal with HBO. The limited series will explore themes of race, class and what constitutes a “good mother” as the riot unfolds into a frenzy. So far, HBO has also recruited Insecure writers Amy Aniobi and Laura Kittrell to co-write the project with Rae.
This is just one of several projects Issa Rae has coming down the pipeline. She’s also be staring in the Paul Feig-produced American Princess as well as Will Packer’s comedy Little, out spring 2019.
