“No Black In The Union Jack” is the latest from Ebony Bones, a gut-punch of a manifesto from her forthcoming LP ‘Nephilim. The genre-defying avant-garde British artist takes aim at the vicious xenophobia and blatant racism running rampant in Britain’s politics. From Brexit to daily discrimination of black, brown, and Muslim Brits. Using a hair-raising audio clip of British Member of Parliament Enoch Powell’s notorious River of Blood speech attacking immigration in 1968 to highlight the institutionalized racism we speak of, calling out the systems and gatekeepers who continue to oppress, post-Brexit.

“Powell’s hate speech was so vile, it had never been broadcast in full until recently. It is one of the most incendiary racist speeches of modern Britain and this year marks its 50th anniversary,” Ebony Bones tells AFROPUNK. “Sadly all these years later this nationalist bile and scapegoating are still globally relevant. What is currently happening with immigration in the US is also happening across the pond in the UK.”

“It was emotional directing the video in parts of London including Brixton where I grew up as well as Grenfell, which has become an international symbol of systemic, institutional and structural inequality.”
