believe black women: kelis reveals the abuse she suffered during marriage to nas

As heartbreaking as it is, I can’t say I was shocked to hear Kelis’ new revelation about the physical and emotional abuse that took place during her marriage to Nas. From Ike and Tina to Rhianna and Chris Brown, misogynoir is at the heart of this particular type of abuse at the hands of black men and, frankly, black women are familiar enough with it to recognize a sister in distress when we see it. Sitting down with Hollywood Unlocked, the singer and chef opened up about the abuse she experienced and participated in during her marriage and while it’s intensely emotional and a lot to handle, it’s extremely important for those who are able to listen to this black woman’s story:
