thousands of ghanaians protesters say no to u.s. military base
Ghanaian protestors gathered in the streets this week to protest the expanded U.S. military presence in their country. Demonstrations in the capital city of Accra saw citizens blowing vuvuzelas, beating drums and carrying signs criticizing their government’s relationship with the States and what that might mean for their communities and the nation’s sovereignty.
“As a right-thinking citizen, I am here to fight for my country. I am against selling our peace and security for $20 million,” said Gifty Yankson, a 49-year-old trader. “They (the American military) become a curse everywhere they are, and I am not ready to mortgage my security.”
Fair enough.
