appeals court uphelds verdict that robin thicke’s ‘blurred lines’ copied marvin gaye’s ‘got to give up’
Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams’ hit ‘Blurred Lines’ is no stranger to controversy.
Besides being deemed rapey by numerous women’s rights activists, the song is also atthe center of her lawsuit in which Marvin Gaye’s family claims that it infringes the copyright to Gaye’s ‘Got To Give Up’.
In 2015, a jury agreed with Marvin Gaye’s family. And today the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the verdict, confirming damage awards against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams, but reversing an award against rapper T.I.
What do you think about the similarities between the two songs?
