Not only taking up the role of producer, Lupita Nyong’o has signed on to star in the film adaptation of Trevor Noah’s book ‘Born A Crime’. Based on Noah’s upbringing in post-apartheid South Africa where his identity as a bi-racial black man (his father is white, his mother is black), Born A Crime explores the complexities of racial dynamics in the country and the immediate lingering effects caused by the apartheid system. The autobiographical work gives Black American readers context for understanding colonialism outside of the trans-Atlantic slave trade and African immigration.

Nyong’o will play the role of Noah’s mother, Patricia, and the film will be produced by Noah’s Ark Angel Productions.
