south african actress connie chiume reveals role in ‘black panther’

South African actress Connie Chiume has just confirmed her role in in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster, Black Panther. Chiume joins a star-studded cast including Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett and Forest Whitaker, among others.

Best known for her roles in Rhythm City and Zone 14, Chiume told South African publication IOL about the casting process: “I play the mining elder in the movie, I auditioned for it right here in South Africa actually but the entire movie was shot in Atlanta in the USA so that’s where all the fun happened.”

She also mentioned working with Ryan Coogler and the two other South African actors in the film: “I am very excited to be apart of this be production, it truly has been an inspiration working with such big stars and being directed by a young and talented man like Ryan Coogler… I am extremely proud, working with John Kani and his son Atandwa was great and for us to represent Africa like this is amazing.”
