this new app will alert you when you’re close to a black-owned business
Buying black has never been easier than it is with the recently launched app, Black Wall Street. A black millennial’s dream come to life, BWS is aimed at bridging the gap between the Black dollar and Black-owned businesses. Conceptualized by Mandy Bowman in 2015, Bowman has worked tirelessly to create a seamless link between the money and the community by making it easier than ever to buy Black.
“I believe it’s due time for us to make a conscious effort to buy Black. We’ve heard the stats that we have a $1.2 trillion dollar buying power yet a dollar only stays in our community for 6 hours whereas, in Jewish and Asian communities, their dollar circulates for 20 days and a month, respectively,” Bowman says. “With our current political state, it’s becoming more evident that supporting Black-owned businesses will allow us to vote with our dollars while strengthening the local economy in the Black community.”
Through the app, followers will be able to search by category, location, open status, and keywords in order to view the Black-owned business around them. Perfect in time for holiday shopping.
