the story of black colleges: #hbcurising documentary filmmaker announces nation-wide campus tour

November 8, 2017

Starting November 14th, the #HBCURising Campus Tour for director Stanley Nelson’s documentary ‘Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities’ kicks off at Dillard University. The first and only feature documentary and interactive multi-platform project of it’s kind, the project’s visual centerpiece tells the histories and stories of historically black colleges and universities. Inspired by the dialogue created around ‘Tell Them We Are Rising’, Nelson and the project’s partnerships are brining the film to HBCUs across the country.

“We felt it was very important to showcase the film to students on HBCU campuses because this is a vital part of our African-American and American history,” said director Stanley Nelson. “Many students and even alumni are not aware of the deep history of how and why HBCUs were created and the foundation for success they provided for African Americans. We appreciate the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s support and the partnership on the ground with local public television and radio stations to make this tour possible.”

Each stop on the tour will feature a screening of the film and panel discussion with Nelson, university leaders, prominent alumni and other guests. You can find the upcoming dates for the #HBCURising campus tour dates, below, and more information about the tour, additional dates, and the film, here.
