widow of u.s. soldier on trump’s call: “he couldn’t remember my husband’s name”
Surprise, surprise! The president is a liar.
Pretty sure the only people who don’t know that at this point are the ones who refuse to. If you are one of those people, then hearing the widow of U.S. soldier La David Johnson who was killed in ambush in Niger on Oct. 4th confirm that #45 told her in a phone call last week that her husband “knew what he signed up for” is likely just going to go over your head.
The controversy had been stewing ever since Trump announced that he was not calling immediate families of all fallen service members because he falsely claimed his predecessors didn’t make such calls. Reportedly, the administration is now rush-delivering condolence letters, even scrambling to find contact information for all Gold Star families of fallen soldiers since January, and made a delayed phone call to the Johnson family last week.
When he finally did call, Rep. Federica Wilson (D-Fla.), who was in the car with Johnson at the time and the call was on speaker phone, was the first to describe the president’s callousness.
“Sarcastically he said: ‘But you know he must have known what he signed up for,’” Wilson told NBC6. “How could you say that to a grieving widow? I couldn’t believe … and he said it more than once. I said this man has no feelings for anyone. This is a young woman with child who is grieved to her soul.”

Trump basically called Wilson a liar, but now Myeshia Johnson is confirming the congresswoman’s story in an interview with Good Morning America. “He couldn’t remember my husband’s name. I heard him stumbling on trying to remember my husband’s name.”
She also reiterated that Trump said that her husband “knew what he signed up for but it hurts anyways. And it made me cry because I was very angry at the tone in his voice and how he said it.”
The president’s call made her “very upset and hurt,” she said. “It made me cry even worse.”
Trump is still denying this on Twitter, but what else is new?
