Rock legend Tom Petty passed away after going into cardiac arrest last night and while the world mourns for the “Free Fallin’” singer, Petty’s advocacy for black musicians at pivotal points in history. (Rightfully) Crediting Chuck Berry for the creation of rock-n-roll, Petty integrated Berry’s legacy into his own shows, covering the late Father of Rock on tour (watch below). Petty’s legacy will, in part, be remembered for his embrace and respect for the artistry of black rockers throughout his career. Many of them are posting tributes to him and sharing memories:
